Easthouse Crofthouse Aurora
A nice display of aurora photographed earlier this year above Easthouse at Duncansclett in Burra.
The crofthouse buildings were renovated by the Burra History Group in 2003 and are now category A listed.
Historic Scotland describe Easthouse as “an exceptionally rare and largely complete example of a 19th century Shetland croft settlement”, noting it is “one of only five buildings or groups of buildings on Shetland that are known to retain an intact thatched roof”.
In the summer months the crofthouse is used as a heritage centre, open to the public, housing photographic exhibitions and other displays.
