Beltane Fire Festival
The annual Beltane Fire Festival is held on Calton Hill in Edinburgh every April 30th. It's described as an arts event and ritual drama, based on ancient Gaelic traditions. The ticket notes that it "Involves fire performance, uninhibited behaviour and semi-nudity" and states "Attendance at own risk"! The spectacle didn't disappoint.
Around 12,000 people (from all backgrounds) crowded the hill top in the centre of Edinburgh. This photo was taken at the start of the event, with the performers standing on the National Monument acropolis.
It's a bit different fae Up Helly Aa!
